Randomness

I read, therefore I am (a procrastinator)

What science should I take next year?

Okay. So this is a really important question and I’m kind of not sure what to do. Feedback please?

Options (no particular order)

Full-year lab courses:

AP Biology

I like biology and did reasonably well in the Biology H (I miss those dissection labs so much, I love bio labs more than any other subject </3). I think Punnett squares are fun :D I heard that there’s a lot of memorization involved in the class, which is bad for me. I also heard that there are a lot of assignments that can bring up your grade even if test grades aren’t great, which is good for me. I heard from one person that the teacher accepts assignments very late, up to the end of the quarter, which is great because I’m time-management challenged. I heard from someone else that late work is never accepted, though, so I’m not sure what to make of it.

AP Chemistry

I did spectacularly badly in Chemistry honors. I’m not really excited about the subject, but I guess it’s sort of interesting in some ways. I really wasn’t considering it at all, but someone told me that there were plenty of people who did not do well in first-year chem but ended up doing really well in AP because the teachers are more understanding, more caring, and easier to comprehend. So it’s an option, but I’m still not sure I want to risk taking such a high-level course when I haven’t done well in the subject so far.

AP Physics

Physics is really cool and really exciting, but I’m not really great at it. I don’t normally mind memorizing the formulas because I end up using them so much that it doesn’t take much effort because I just remember naturally. Also, they can be derived if there’s a problem. I usually think I understand it, but sometimes I have trouble. Grades are nothing to get excited about. My teacher (I have Eastep) told me AP Physics was very hard, but another person told me it wasn’t. I’m sure it would be very interesting.

AP Environmental Science

I heard it was easy. I heard it involves a lot of memorization. I heard there’s a lot of busywork. I heard (from my teacher and others) that it is boring. Chemistry is one of the prerequisites and, as mentioned above, I’m a bit wary of things that involve chemistry.

Anatomy & Physiology Honors

My physics teacher says there’s a lot of dissection, which I love, but other people say there’s a lot of memorization and I would do terribly, which I do not love.

Half-year electives: I really would prefer to take a full-year lab science. I feel like I would be missing something if I didn’t. Also, some people say that the classes and teachers of honors/AP are better than in regular courses. So I would only take science as electives if I really had to.

Astronomy

I’m actually really interested in astronomy, I think it would be exciting to learn. If I am somehow unable to take a lab science course, this would be my first choice. Haven’t heard anything about it.

Contemporary Issues in Science

Seems relatively interesting. Not really sure what to expect.

Environmental Studies (1/2)

Dunno. If I wanted to study the environment, couldn’t I just take APES?

Marine Biology

No knowledge of the subject. No particular interest, no particular disinterest. Not really sure what to expect.

Forensic Science

I’m interested in forensics, but I was specifically warned by several people who took the course that it was badly taught, full of idiots, pointless, and stupid. So I guess I won’t take it.

Meteorology

I think we dabbled in it in 8th grade. Again, didn’t really love it, but I have nothing against it.

Goals?

Really not sure what I want as a college major or career. Ideally, I would take a course that I am interested in, could get a good grade in, and would find useful.Computer Science/Linguistics Engineer and Robotics Engineering are both ideas that have sort of been thrown around.

  1. driftingmelodies answered: you should probably take ap bio, given the circumstances.
